ISO/IEC 17025 Personnel Competence and Training

Results are only as reliable as the people producing them. Clause 6.2 requires laboratories to ensure personnel are competent for the work they perform.

Define competence requirements

For each role and activity, state the education, training, experience and skills required.

Authorize and record

Formally authorize staff to perform specific activities, and keep records of qualifications, training, competence assessment and authorizations.

Monitor and re-assess

Competence isn’t one-and-done — monitor ongoing performance and re-assess when methods or equipment change.
