How these numbers are worked out

Heartbeats = minutes alive × resting heart rate Breaths = minutes alive × breaths per minute Earth spins = days alive × 1.00274 (one rotation = 23 h 56 min) Sleep = days alive × hours per night ÷ 24 Food ≈ 1.2 kg per day on average across childhood and adulthood Coffee = cups per day × days since age 16 Summers and weekends left = (life expectancy − current age) × 1 or × 52

Heart rate varies a lot through life. It’s over 120 bpm as a newborn and around 60–100 bpm for adults at rest, so treat these as friendly averages, not medical figures. The Earth takes 23 hours 56 minutes to spin once relative to the stars. That is why the rotation count is slightly higher than your days alive.

Fun facts to share

  • A 30-year-old has had roughly 1.1 billion heartbeats and taken about 240 million breaths.
  • You spend around a third of your life asleep. At 90 years that’s about 30 years in bed.
  • An average person eats something like 30–35 tonnes of food in a lifetime, roughly the weight of six elephants.
  • Most people have already used up more than 90% of the time they will ever spend with their parents by the time they finish school. That is the reason to visit more.

Frequently asked questions

How many times has my heart beaten?

Multiply your minutes alive by your average heart rate. At 72 beats per minute, one year is about 37.8 million heartbeats, so a 30-year-old has had roughly 1.1 billion.

How many times has the Earth rotated since I was born?

Slightly more than your number of days alive, because the Earth completes one full rotation (a sidereal day) every 23 hours 56 minutes. After 10,000 days it has spun about 10,027 times.

How many summers do I have left?

Subtract your age from your expected lifespan. At 35 with a life expectancy of 80, you have about 45 summers left, which is why so many people use this number as a reminder to plan the trips and projects that matter.

Are these numbers accurate?

They’re estimates based on averages and the habits you enter. Real values vary from person to person. The idea is to give you a vivid sense of scale, not a precise count.
